Harriet Gavshon led Quizzical Pictures for two decades before transitioning to a full-time creative role. With a prolific career spanning film and television, she has produced a wide range of content. Holding a master's degree in Cinema Studies from NYU, she taught drama and film at the University of the Witwatersrand before pioneering South Africa's independent documentary/current affairs landscape with Ordinary People.
Harriet’s production credits include a diverse portfolio of award-winning drama, documentary, and educational television. Recent highlights include the internationally acclaimed Reyka, nominated for two International Emmy Awards, and White Lies. In addition, she has executive produced several Netflix series, notably Savage Beauty.
Recognized for her contributions to the industry, Harriet received the Women in Film Crystal Award in 1998 and a woman's artist award from the Minister of Arts and Culture in 2005. Her productions have garnered over fifty SAFTA awards, a Fespaco prize, a Rose D’Or, a Peabody Award, and five International Emmy nominations.
